Your data.
It stays on your Mac.
Workivo is a time log that runs on one Mac and keeps everything there. This policy covers Workivo 1.0 for Mac as distributed on the Mac App Store.
Who is responsible
Workivo is developed by Aws Nasser in Abu Dhabi, UAE. For privacy questions, contact workivo@awsnasser.com.
What Workivo records
Every few seconds, while you are at the screen, Workivo writes one row describing the window you are working in:
- the name of the application in front, for example “Adobe Photoshop”;
- the title of its window, for example “quarterly_report.psd”;
- how long you stayed there, and whether you were at the keyboard or away;
- the address of your browser’s front tab — only if you turn that on. It is off by default.
It also keeps what you choose to give it: project names and their matching patterns, notes, and your name if you add one. Nothing is filled in for you, and nothing is taken from your macOS account.
What Workivo never records
No screenshots and no screen contents. Workivo asks macOS for the Screen Recording permission because that permission is the only way macOS will hand over a window title. The app never captures, reads or stores any image of your screen, and calls no screen-capture API.
No keystrokes. Workivo asks macOS how long it has been since you last touched the keyboard or mouse, so it can tell working from idle. It never sees which keys.
No audio, camera, clipboard, file contents, messages, contacts or location. The Mac App Store version does not read document paths.
Titles you never want written down
Some window titles carry things that should not be recorded — a terminal command, a password manager, a private conversation. Workivo handles this before anything is saved:
- Apps on your private apps list have their titles replaced with [private]. Terminals, password managers and messengers are on it by default. The time still counts; the title is never stored.
- Any title containing one of your words that hide a title is replaced the same way. Bank, salary, medical, insurance and the common password managers are there by default.
- Private and incognito browser windows are recorded as private, and their address is discarded.
Both lists are yours to edit in Settings → Privacy.
Where it is stored
Inside the app’s own container on your Mac, readable only by Workivo:
~/Library/Containers/com.awsnasser.worklog.native/Data/Library/Application Support/WorkLog
It is not synced, not uploaded and not copied anywhere by the app. If you use Time Machine or iCloud Drive, your own backup settings apply to it as to any other file on your Mac; we have no access to those backups.
Nothing is sent
Workivo contains no networking code, no third-party libraries, no analytics, no crash reporting and no advertising. It does not contact any server, including ours. If you have chosen in macOS to share analytics with app developers, Apple may pass us anonymous crash reports; that is Apple’s service, governed by your macOS settings, and not part of Workivo.
Retention and deletion
Detailed rows older than 90 days are deleted automatically; Workivo checks for them every few hours. Each day’s totals are kept, so your history of hours stays intact. You can change the period in Settings → Storage, or make it long enough to keep everything.
To delete everything: quit Workivo from the menu bar, move it to the Bin, and delete the folder above. There is no account to close and no copy anywhere else.
Permissions Workivo asks for
- Screen Recording — the only way macOS releases a window title. If you refuse, app names and durations still work and every title is blank.
- Automation, per browser — to ask your front browser for the address of its front tab. Off by default; only requested if you turn it on. If you refuse, website time is counted but not named.
- Notifications — break, overtime and focus reminders, if you turn them on.
Workivo does not start when you log in unless you say so, and imports nothing from a previous installation unless you choose the folder yourself.
Exports and support requests
Excel and CSV exports are saved where you choose; you decide whether to share them. If you email support, your address, message and any attachments are handled by the email providers involved and used only to answer you. Ask us to delete that correspondence at any time; some records may have to be kept where the law requires it.
Children
Workivo is not directed at children and collects nothing from anyone.
This website
These pages use no analytics, advertising, cookies or forms. Your theme choice is saved in your browser’s local storage if you change it. App previews use anonymous sample data and do not monitor your device. The pages load font styles from Fontshare, so your browser connects to that service; the website host and the font service receive normal request information such as your IP address and browser details. Other portfolio pages may have different integrations.
Changes and questions
If this policy changes, the new version will be published here with a new date. Because the app sends nothing, no change can affect what has already been recorded. Questions or requests: workivo@awsnasser.com.
